Disaster Preparedness/Response

The Office of Disaster Preparedness/Response offers education, planning, guidance, and oversight of Catholic Social Services’ disaster preparedness and response programs in the Archdiocese of Mobile.

Current Preparedness Efforts:

  • Developing a disaster preparedness action plan and incident management system that can be implemented in order for Catholic Social Services of Mobile, The Service Center, and the Archdiocese of Mobile to continue to provide services to the community and respond effectively during a disaster.
  • Volunteer Disaster Case Management Response Program- to train a cadre of volunteers who can deploy following a disaster to support the disaster recovery phase and implement the post-disaster rebuilding process. If you are interested in being a volunteer, please contact Joseph Bayer, Program Manager of Disaster Preparedness/Response.
  • Catholic Social Services is a member of the Mobile County Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD). Mobile County VOAD (https://mobilecountyvoad.wordpress.com/) is a nonpartisan, membership-based organization that builds resiliency in our communities. It serves as the forum where organizations share knowledge and resources throughout the disaster cycle- preparation, response, recovery, and mitigation- to help disaster survivors and their communities. To fulfill this mission, Mobile County VOAD fosters effective services to people affected by disaster through convening mechanisms, outreach, advocacy, and as a champion and facilitator for the application of our values and core principles. Mobile County VOAD is a member of Alabama VOAD.

Current Response Efforts:

  • Catholic Social Services is providing support for the long-term recovery efforts following the 2014 spring storms, flooding, and tornadoes that received a Presidential Disaster Declaration DR-4176.
